The music on Big Time was written over the course of five years between living in California and Germany, and is a small portion of Ben Thomas's original work. This EP serves as a documentation of a great band of like minded musicians during Ben's stay in Germany until 2020.
"Dinner Time" is inspired by the sheer excitement felt by Barbra Streisand, the cat, at the notion of being fed her nightly wet food.
"Sonder" was written in hommage to the band Kneebody, which uses long free flowing composed lines to weave complex harmonies together. The title refers to the overwhelming idea that each person in the world has their own life, which includes relationships, thoughts, dreams, fears, jobs, loss...when I start to think it's hard to stop, which is why the composed section is so long!
"Knee High" is titled after knee high socks and is dedicated to Ben's father, who really loves knee high socks.
"Colorless" was inspired after reading the Murakami book "Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki," which focuses on the life of a man who on the outside is very plain, but inside has complex feelings and emotions. The tune plays with this idea by initially having a simple melody with colorful chords that soon develop with more and more complexity.
